E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of E.ON Energie AG and Germany's largest conventional generator of electricity, owns and operates more than 30 coal, gas, oil, and biomass-fired power stations. It supplies most of its electric output to E.ON Energie AG for its parent company's intermediate and peaking requirements.

In addition to its mainstay coal electric generation business, E.ON Kraftwerke is actively expanding its renewable generation and energy contracting operations via its subsidiary E.ON Energy Projects. E.ON Kraftwerke also generates district heating and process steam, and operates thermal waste-treatment facilities. It furthermore provides integrated plant maintenance and repair services via its subsidiary E.ON Anlagenservice.
